"Buenos Aires Cathedral"
The choir organ history
The organbuilder of this instrument is unknown. Probably, this is an Spanish organ with Flemish
characteristics. Initially placed in the Chapel of "Santa Catalina" Hospital in Buenos Aires.
Moved to the Metropolitan Cathedral in 1822.
With the exception of this colonial instrument, there are no physical
traces today of previous older organs in the country. However is necessary
to say that according to several chronicles, no less than 400 portative or
positive organs built by local artesans existed during the 18th century and
are lost at present times.
A very particular organ appropriate for performance of the 18th century
keyboard music wrote in Spain, Italy and Portugal.
